One of the main reasons for maintaining this blog is to document the progress of transforming my huge accumulation of bookmarks into a real collection. I realize that I haven’t been writing much about my progress, despite the fact that I’ve been working quite a bit towards that goal. My reluctance probably has to do with my engineering roots and my bias towards showing tidy accomplishments rather than the messy development process.
So, I’ve decided to write out a series of posts that give a better idea of where I’m starting, and more information about the process I’m going through. They will provide me with a record of my collection’s development and may help others avoid the mistakes I make. I really hope that anyone else who may have tips and suggestions from building their own collections would be willing to add comments. I’d also be happy with any critiques or questions.
I decided to start off by gathering all the bookmarks into one area. This is a shelf in my office closet that I’ve set aside for the bookmarks as well as some other collectibles. In fact, I’m only showing the one shelf which mainly stores bookmarks, since the rest of the closet has a variety of other comics, slide rules, electronics, and other odd items.
So now, any bookmarks that come into the house are directed to these drawers and bins. I’ve already started to sort and organize, but I’ll describe those steps in later posts.
