Making Bookmarks Roundup No. 1

September 8th, 2007 · No Comments

Here are a set of patterns and instructions for making bookmarks which I’ve recently come across. Some are newly published, and others are just recent discoveries. I originally thought I’d publish a post for each item as I discovered them, but so many have popped up that I’ve decided to publish a regular (weekly?) collection of links. Let me know what you think.

I came across this image on the site of photographer D. L. Ennis. He’s encouraging people to download the picture and print out bookmarks with it. All he asks is that you try not to remove the information on the image or at least retain the copyright information.

He calls it The Quill.

Over at CraftBits, they have a pattern for this crocheted bookmark that was contributed by Holly Custer.

It’s called the Mile A Second bookmark (I’m not sure why).

Needlework Bookmark: Knitting

Crochet BookmarkDave, at Criminy Jickets, just published his pattern for a knitted bookmark. It has a lace pattern appearing on both sides of the bookmark.

He’s asking folks who actually make a bookmark from the pattern to please send him a picture.

Watermelon BookmarkIt looks like Tracy Lambert at About.Com:Needlepoint posts a pattern for a bookmark once a month.

This month the pattern is inspired by Labor Day and is called Watermelon.

General Craft Bookmarks

recyling bookmarkTeresa Wong from the Malaysian online news site The Star has a nice article on making these fun little bookmarks. She uses recycled materials (like a juice box and plastic bags) to weave the body and create a padded head. Some scissors, a little glue, and a few other easily accessible items make for a nice little project.

Online Bookmark

Highlight KidsThe HighlightsKids website has a page where you can design a bookmark and then print it out. The final design is a black outline so that the print can be colored as an activity.

It’s an easy sight for kids to use and provides a large and interesting range of choices
