Continuing my weekly (more or less) collection of links for patterns, instructions, and images used to make bookmarks.
Beaded Bookmark
Over at the About.com section on Parenting of Adolescents, Denise Witmer has posted directions for making a beaded bookmark. I recently had the opportunity to make this style of bookmark for a swap, and the organizer called it a “book thong”. I like that term and am going to start using it.
Needlework Bookmark: Cross-Stitch
Connie G. Thomas at About.Com:Cross-Stitch has published a pattern for a bookmark she calls the Band Sampler. She also has a gallery of images with a lot of variations on the main pattern. I haven’t done any cross-stiching myself, but it looks like a nice practice piece.
I have several antique bookmarks in my collection that were practice pieces by women made them in their homes. Many ended up being used in the family bible (or at least those are the ones that have survived). So, there’s quite a tradition of bookmarks created as needlework practice pieces.
Paper and Magnets
Over at PaperFriendly, I came across these instructions for making a magnetic bookmark. Nancy Ward blogs about paper crafts, and this bookmark is the kind that folds over the page of a book and the magnets in the bookmark draw together and clip onto the page.
