It’s been 10 weeks since my last entry, and the obvious question is “what happened?”
Well, the simple answer is that I just got extremely busy: the usual holiday pressures, add in a major work project with a short deadline, overtime through the holidays, etc, etc.
However, the more involved answer includes the fact that my time spent blogging has been focused in directions I did not originally intended. After thinking about this for awhile, I finally concluded that I was spending too much time preparing news and link based entries rather than actually working on my bookmark collection.
I was admiring and linking to the wonderful on-line postings of other collectors, and had barely made any progress on postings of my own collection.
So, I’ve been tweaking some things. I’ve streamlined some of the activities that I want to continue, and I’m focusing a bit more on my own collection. That includes the original intent of this blog, which was to documenting the process of changing my piles of bookmarks (squirreled away in boxes, drawers, and shelves) into a real collection.
There are more dimensions to this hobby than I originally thought, including keeping up with bookmark related news, connecting with other collectors, and discovering a lot of new styles and types of bookmarks. This has led to projects that have been piling up on my blog to-do list: highlighting some manufacturers, interviewing collectors, pointing out interesting swaps and sales, pulling together virtual collections (more on this another time), highlighting some amazing essays and research on bookmarks (I’m talking about you, BiblioBuffet), and promoting the hobby.
So, there will be some changes. I hope they are well received, but more importantly, I think they’ll keep me active on this blog and other bookmark sites.
So, let’s see where this Bookmark Collector goes.
