    Hello,
Congratulations for this refreshing blog. Lauren from BiblioBuffet gave me a hint to your page. I placed a link to your site here:
    http://www.miragebookmark.ch/wb_web_pages.htm
I may come up soon with a plea to publish some of your essays as well: would that be OK for you?
    Thank you and best regards,
    Asim

Thanks for visiting, Asim. Your site is one of the most extensive ones focusing on bookmarks, and I plan on discussing it an upcoming post. Feel free to republish any post or article that seems appropriate.
    Thanks again,
    Alan

Dear Alan, thank you for the interesting information about the ivory bookmark from India of 16th century which had been used in illuminated Korans. I think this worth to be mentioned in the history of bookmarks, so I made an entry on the respective page, of course, with a credit to your blog:
    http://www.miragebookmark.ch/wb_history.htm
I hope you agree with the quotation and thank
    you again.
    Best regards, Asim

We’re always on the look out for bookmark orientated websites. There are remarkably few considering the fact that there are (apparently) more bookmarks in existence then people on this Earth. This, in my opinion, is an interesting fact, however getting a more precise figure is incredibly difficult. Any tips?
We at The Bookmark Shop are attempting to build a useful resource for bookmark collectors and are interested in any information you might be able to supply us, including personal opinions and facts. Would you be able to help or put us in the right direction?
Thanks for any help you can give.
    Rowan

  • alanirwin // Jan 27th 2007 at 5:36 pm

    Howdy Rowan!
Thanks for the comment and you raise an interesting question…how to estimate the number of bookmarks in existence? Hmm, that’s the kind of question that gets my engineering mind engaged. I’ll be thinking about that for awhile.
I’ve visited your website and admired (okay, coveted may be a better description) your products. I’m glad there are such great bookmark oriented sites and am happy to contribute any way I can.

My comprehension of English is good, my written Engish is poor, I agree with your words, so I’ve copied them, so sorry!
I send to you a link related to bookmarks, it is French and so beautiful!

I’ve put a link to your page in it.
Thank you, have a nice day!

    Welcome Núria!
Thanks for visiting and leaving a link to your website. Your collection is amazing, both beautiful and very large! However, the link to your blog was not working. If you can leave the link again, I would like to visit.

  • Núria // Feb 28th 2007 at 1:11 am

Thanks Alan for your warming welcome.
Due to my bad English you have misunderstanded me, the French website is not my collection, I wish it had!
    Mi blogspot is: http://www.puntperpunt.blogspot.com.
I’m just starting, only few entries.
I’m interested in exchanging bookmarks, if you are let me know!
    Thanks again.

  • alanirwin // Mar 8th 2007 at 5:11 pm

    Hello and welcome Michael,
I just checked out your website and store, and the bookmarks look great. I’ll visit it again and see if I can get the Alta-Vista translator (babelfish) to help with my understanding the text.
    Thanks again for stopping by!

Making the world of bookmarks even bigger, last year we found some very nice magnetic bookmarks in Italy, made by a little company in Tuscany. We liked them right away and started to import and sell them in our bookshop. Our clients appreciate it very much and so we decided to share the discovery with everyone on http://www.alsegna.com

    Good Afternoon Alan,
We have been weaving silk bookmarks in the UK since 1998, but have only recently started to become aware of the wide world of collectors. As a result of this I have started to put together an archive of our work at papilionaceous.com and have a wander around the web to see who else is out here.
Introductions done, if you or anyone else has comments or suggestions I would be glad to hear them and incorporate them where possible.
    Thanks, Robert

  • alanirwin // Oct 2nd 2007 at 7:31 am

    Welcome Robert,
I had a chance for a quick visit at your site, and it’s amazing! I’ll be back for a more detailed viewing.
Thanks for stopping by and introducing yourself,
    Alan

    Hi Alan.

Enjoyed seeing your collection! We make and market bronze, brass and steel markers that function as both bookmarks and line-markers. These small clips allow readers to highlight and recall specific lines of text and favorite passages quickly and without harming the page.

I think you’d enjoy them… Is there an address to which we could send some samples? We’d love to donate a few to your collection…

    Thanks!

My mom, a librarian, also collects bookmarks. Since they are mostly paper bookmarks, she wants some kind of album to keep them in. Do you have any good suggestions for storing bookmarks?
    Thank you!

  • Melody Lea Lamb // Apr 21st 2008 at 5:48 am

Any chance you or one of your readers (preferably in the U.S.) would be interested in buying a box of clear vinyl bookmark bags from me? I’m decluttering my house and found these that I’d bought back in 1990 and never bothered to put my collection into. There are at least 600 of them. (They’re from Larry E. Krein Co.) • Sellyana // Sep 2nd 2009 at 8:39 pm

    Hi Alan!
I came across your blog today. WOW! I didn’t know that there are people who are just like me, passionate about reading and (of course) collecting bookmarks. I have been collecting bookmarks since my childhood time but the craze has got bigger and bigger since the time I started having my own money. Like others, I buy many bookmarks but also create my own. There aren’t many bookmarks sold in book stores here in Indonesia.

  • alanirwin // Sep 4th 2009 at 4:50 pm

    Welcome Sellyana!
It’s great to meet another collector. There’s a lot of opportunity to swap by mail all around the world, especially if you hand make bookmarks. I hope you make some good connections from the Bookmark Bookmarks posts.

    Hello!

Nice website. I’m a new bookmark collector. I have some from online bookstores, others from local bookstores (I live in Argentina) and I also have 1 from Russia and 1 from Belgium. I would like to have at least 1 bookmark from every country in the world. Can you give me some tips on how to start a great collection ?

    Thank you

I have a bunch of book marks that over the years I been obtained inside a book purchased here or there. They are paper and a few date from the early 18th century. Any ideas on where to find out about them? For me they are just a curiosity nothing more and at some point I will just put them up on Ebay and see what happens but for now I would like to do some research.
